Job Announcement
The Norwalk Police Department is now accepting applications for Entry Level Police Officer.
The Norwalk Department of Police Services announces an open recruitment process for the position of Entry Level Police Officer. Applicants will be required to successfully complete a written examination, physical ability test, oral board examination, thorough background investigation, polygraph and psychological examinations, physical examination and drug screening.

Qualified applicants are permitted to register now on-line by submitting an application through PoliceApp. A 40% CHIP card and a CPCA Exam passing score will be required at the time of registration. Steps for Applying to Become a Norwalk Police Officer
Step One -
Do you meet the minimum qualifications?
Yes - Move to step two.
No - Do not proceed further until you do.
Step Two -
Do you have a valid current 40% C.H.I.P. card and a passing score from the CPCA Exam?
Yes - Move to step three.
No - Register and take the Physical Ability Assessment (C.H.I.P. card) and CPCA Police Officer Exam. These can be done in any order, but both are required in order to apply to the Norwalk Police Department. For information on testing and to register, go to the CPCA Website. To Register for the CHIP Test go to CertifyFit.com. There is a $95 Registration fee for the CPCA written exam and a $75 Registration fee to participate in the CHIP Physical Agility Test. (Fees may be waived due to financial hardship. Requests for fee waivers should be directed to the CPCA and Certify Fit).
Step Three -
Apply to the Norwalk Police Department by clicking the "Apply Now" button on this page.
Complete and submit your application.
Individuals without a CHIP card or a CPCA passing score withing the past 6 months will not be able to submit the application.
Step Four -
Take Oral Board Interview. Notification will be made by email based on CPCA exam scores and Department needs.
Not all applicants with a passing CPCA exam score will advance to the Oral Board Interview.
Pass - Move to step five (or remain on the eligibility list for the next step)
Did not pass - End of process. You may return to step two in six months.
Step Five -
Invite to participate in a Pre-Conditional Offer Chief's Interview.
Step Six -
Pass - Placement on Eligibility List.
Did not pass - End of process. You may return to step two in six months.
Placement on the list does not ensure that you will move on to the next phase.
Step Seven -
Conditional Offer of Employment to those selected from the eligibility list.
Step Eight -
Acceptance of the Conditional Offer of Employment begins the Background Investigation Process and additional testing. A final offer of employment by the Police Commission may be offered to candidates that successfully complete the full Background Investigation and proceed to a Police Commission Interview.
Successful candidates can expect to go through the Phases for Becoming a Norwalk Police Officer. The Phases are available in the Norwalk Selection Phases document in the upper right corner of this page.
