BARRINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Police Officer 

The Barrington Police Department is committed to establishing a partnership with all members of our community and work force in town, to proactively solve problems and reduce crime.  The primary mission of the police force is crime prevention and the protection of life and property. We service over 16,000 residents and a small business district in town.  With over 19 miles of coastline, Barrington is known as a seaside community with a beautiful town beach and five marinas. A daily emphasis of the department's staff is dedicated to the Community Policing philosophy.

Salary:

$61,087    (after 15 months employed, plus educational incentive, holiday & overtime)

Minimum Application Requirements:

• Two years of college study that shall include at least successful completion of 60 credits AND/OR
• Two years of honorable active military service AND/OR four (4) years of honorable Reserve or National Guard Service AND/OR
• A graduate of the Rhode Island Municipal Academy with active law enforcement service within the past three (3) years.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
• Must be a United States citizen
• Must possess a High School Diploma or GED

Selection Process:

The applicants meeting the minimum basic requirements must successfully complete the following phases of the selection process. Testing Dates, Times and Locations will be emailed to qualified applicants. (all listed dates are subject to change) 

1. Orientation – Saturday, March 12, 2016 @ 9:00 AM at Barrington Town Hall
2. Written Test – Saturday, March 19, 2016 @ 9:00 AM at TBA
3. Physical Agility Test – Saturday, April 2, 2016 @ 9:00 AM at TBA
4. Oral Interview – week of April 18, 2016
5. Oral Interview with Barrington Town Manager - TBA
6. Psychological Testing/Exam – TBA
7. Recommendation by Police Chief to Town Manager
8. Academy Start Date – July 18, 2016
