This comprehensive advanced course builds upon foundational knowledge by delving deeper into bloodstain pattern analysis techniques and methodologies. Participants will expand their expertise and practical skills well beyond introductory concepts, with particular emphasis on the legal and procedural requirements for qualifying as an expert witness in judicial proceedings.
The curriculum emphasizes practical, hands-on experience working with authentic bloodstain patterns and utilizing advanced chemical processing techniques. These experiential learning components are designed to refine pattern recognition abilities and deepen understanding of real-world analytical applications. Through examination of actual case studies, participants will learn effective strategies for preparing findings documentation and presenting evidence appropriately for court proceedings. A mock courtroom exercise provides valuable opportunity to practice testifying regarding analytical conclusions in a realistic legal environment.
The course also addresses critical legal considerations, including the Daubert Decision and other expert witness standards that may influence courtroom testimony. This class is restricted to active law enforcement and prosecuting attorneys employed by governmental agencies.

Prerequisites: Participants should have completed a 40-hour wet lab course in bloodstain pattern analysis before enrolling.

What to Bring: Appropriate attire for field exercises involving bending, stooping, and ground-level measurement and documentation of bloodstains created using veterinarian-provided, preventatively tested animal blood. A camera and documentation equipment are recommended for recording field exercise activities.
