Crime Scene Processing Workshop

This comprehensive workshop is designed to develop your expertise in managing crime scenes from the initial request through courtroom testimony. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises, and real-world case studies, you will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively process crime scenes.

The course emphasizes critical skills including the recognition, documentation, collection, preservation, processing, and analysis of physical evidence. Participants will engage in practical exercises focusing on latent fingerprint development methods and utilizing light energy technology for scene processing. Additional training covers the interpretation of bloodstain patterns, application of chemical enhancement techniques, and courtroom procedures for presenting crime scene evidence.

Intended Audience

This course is designed for crime scene technicians, patrol officers, detectives (both newly assigned and experienced), investigations supervisors, medical examiner and coroner investigators, and military investigative personnel. The course is restricted to active sworn and non-sworn law enforcement and medical examiner personnel.

Prerequisites

Participants should possess field experience or foundational knowledge of crime scene processing.

What to Bring

Required: Clothing suitable for handling chemicals and powders during evidence processing. Gloves and other protective equipment will be supplied.

Recommended: A digital camera for documenting field exercise activities.

Certification

This course is approved by the International Association for Identification (IAI) for Crime Scene Certification.
