Course Overview
This comprehensive defensive tactics training program is specifically designed for law enforcement professionals seeking instructor-level certification. The course bridges the gap between practical street application and instructional effectiveness, preparing officers to both master and teach essential close-contact defense techniques.
Core Curriculum
Students will develop proficiency in a range of practical defensive skills, including takedowns and control holds for physical restraint, proper handcuffing techniques for suspect apprehension, striking methods and weapon disarmament procedures, and ground control along with submission locks for close-quarters situations. The training emphasizes modern, proven techniques while eliminating outdated or impractical approaches.
Key Training Components
Beyond physical techniques, the course integrates critical tactical mindset development. Participants will explore de-escalation strategies, learn to read body language and situational awareness, and understand weapon location awareness. The instruction balances technical complexity with accessibility, ensuring officers can understand and effectively apply concepts regardless of their martial arts background.
Instructor Development
An emphasis is placed on instructor skills and teaching methodology. Participants receive guidance on articulating use of force decisions, report writing standards, department policy integration, and effective teaching practices. This dual focus ensures graduates can confidently train their own agencies.
Certification Details
Successful completion results in a two-year certification demonstrating competency in close contact defense instruction. Recertification options are available at reduced cost to maintain active instructor status.
Cancellation Policy
Participants must provide a minimum of 15 days notice before the course start date to cancel without penalty. Cancellations with less than 15 days notice result in a department credit valid for one year toward future training.
