Police Internal Affairs

This in-depth program is tailored for newly appointed internal affairs officers and supervisors, experienced investigators seeking professional development, civilian IA personnel, and agency leadership seeking to understand best practices in IA operations. The course presents a model procedures framework applicable to small, medium, and large public safety organizations.

Upon completion, participants will possess the investigative knowledge and legal understanding required to function effectively as internal affairs investigators. This includes handling criminal allegations and officer-involved shooting cases.

The curriculum guides attendees through systematic approaches to conducting impartial, thorough administrative investigations and specialized inquiries into sexual harassment and hostile work environment matters. Course modules deliver current judicial precedents and nationally recognized standards governing complaint procedures, investigative protocols, employee protections, social media governance, record retention requirements, and media information release policies.

Instruction emphasizes specialized interview methodologies designed to effectively engage complainants, witnesses, and accused officers.

Course participation is limited to sworn and non-sworn law enforcement professionals.
