Management of the K-9 Unit

This comprehensive course equips law enforcement supervisors with essential knowledge about police canine unit operations, capabilities, and best practices. Participants will gain insights into establishing effective K-9 programs, implementing sound leadership practices, and understanding the full scope of canine team management within a police department.

The curriculum covers the evolution and capabilities of police service dogs, with emphasis on proper selection criteria and training methodologies for K-9 teams. Leadership development features prominently, including team-building exercises designed to strengthen unit cohesion and effectiveness. Instructors address the practical aspects of canine care, including health maintenance, housing considerations, and end-of-service planning for retired dogs.

Participants will also explore critical administrative functions including budget management, record-keeping systems, legal compliance, and policy creation specific to K-9 operations. The course provides current legal updates and guidance on developing sound policies that protect both canine and human team members.

Course Duration: 32 hours

Class Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily

Tuition: $825.00

Preparation Notes: Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to participate fully in group activities. Please note that working K-9s are not permitted to attend this training course.
