This extensive 40-hour training program is tailored for internal affairs officers and supervisors at all experience levels, including those newly assigned to internal affairs roles, seasoned professionals seeking skill enhancement, civilian investigators, and law enforcement administrators. The curriculum accommodates the operational demands of small, medium, and large public safety organizations by presenting model procedures applicable across diverse agency structures.

Upon completion of this course, participants will possess the competencies and legal knowledge required to effectively execute internal affairs investigations, including cases involving criminal conduct and officer-involved shooting incidents. The program systematically guides attendees through conducting fair, comprehensive, and impartial administrative investigations, alongside specialized examinations of sexual harassment claims and hostile work environment grievances.

  • Ethics and integrity frameworks in public safety organizations
  • Internal affairs policy, organizational rules, and established procedures
  • Complaint receipt and processing protocols
  • Integrity testing and sting operation methodologies
  • Personnel complaint investigation procedures
  • Interview preparation and execution with complainants, witnesses, and subjects
  • Documentation management, record-keeping systems, and early warning programs
  • Sexual harassment and workplace hostility investigations
  • Applicable legal standards and relevant court decisions
  • Officer-involved shooting investigations and in-custody death examinations
  • Body-worn camera applications and policies
  • Collaborative group projects and presentations

Intended Audience: This course serves sworn and non-sworn law enforcement professionals assigned to administrative investigations, professional standards divisions, public safety leadership, and human resources and governmental supervisors overseeing law enforcement personnel.

Class Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily | Cost: $995.00 per participant
