Course Overview

This comprehensive 24-hour program equips professionals with the expertise needed to employ computer-aided design tools for creating precise, admissible crash scene diagrams using DVI-3D's integrated 2D/3D capabilities. Participants will master techniques for documenting, examining, and presenting crash scene data through detailed, proportionally accurate visual representations.

Core Competencies

The curriculum builds practical proficiency in importing field measurement data obtained through various collection methods—including total station equipment, GPS technology, drone imagery, point cloud data, and baseline coordinate systems. Students explore fundamental CAD operations encompassing project initialization, line creation, model placement, layer administration, project organization, two and three-dimensional scene construction, and terrain modeling.

The program advances to sophisticated applications including data geo-positioning, integration of multiple information sources, derivation of variables needed for reconstruction calculations, and final diagram preparation for legal proceedings and professional presentations. Real-world case studies and applied exercises reinforce competency development and transfer skills to actual investigative work.

Duration and Requirements

The program runs for 24 hours. Participants must have previously completed IPTM's two-week At Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course or comparable training. Engineering professionals should possess equivalent formal education or field experience in crash investigation methodology. A laptop computer capable of supporting DVI-3D software is required.

Professional Credit

Completion qualifies participants for 24 ACTAR continuing education units.
