Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation

This course represents the second offering in a three-part specialized training sequence. Building on the foundational knowledge from IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course, participants will explore sophisticated concepts and methodologies specific to traffic crash investigations.

The curriculum addresses complex vehicle dynamics including acceleration and deceleration factors, as well as airborne situations. Participants will develop skills in estimating vehicle speeds based on falls, vaults, and flips, and will calculate kinetic energy and linear momentum. The course also covers evaluation of vehicle lighting, tire condition, and collision-related damage to interpret vehicle behavior during impacts.

A substantial portion of the instruction focuses on applying acceleration and deceleration factors alongside perception and reaction times to establish time and distance relationships between colliding vehicles.

This training is designed for law enforcement officers and private sector traffic crash investigators, claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety officers, military investigative personnel, and professionals working with collision animation and simulation software.

Prerequisites

Completion of IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course or equivalent coursework is required. Individuals without a solid foundation in mathematics and physics are strongly encouraged to complete IPTM's 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course beforehand.

Additional Notes

Florida law enforcement officers should be aware that this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit under FDLE's Advanced Traffic Accident Investigations course classification. Participants should review all formulas and prior coursework from their basic or At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation training before attending.

This course is not eligible for certificate discounts.
