Course Overview
This advanced course represents the third offering in IPTM's comprehensive three-course traffic crash investigation series. Building on foundational knowledge from the Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course, this program provides an in-depth exploration of vehicle dynamics and the mathematical principles underlying crash analysis. Participants will engage in rigorous study of time and distance calculations, two-dimensional momentum analysis, and techniques for determining impact speeds using momentum-based equations.

- Derivation and historical development of widely-used speed calculation formulas
- Determining vehicle speed at point of impact through conservation of linear momentum principles
- Vehicle behavior during collisions based on Newton's three laws of motion
- Unique dynamics of commercial vehicles and motorcycles in collision scenarios
- Methodologies for establishing direction of travel, initial contact points, and vehicle positioning at the crash scene
Course Structure and Experience
The program emphasizes practical application through extensive project-based learning. Students complete detailed diagrams and analyses of multiple crash scenarios and perform vector sum analysis for each case, providing hands-on experience in real-world crash reconstruction techniques.

This course is designed for law enforcement personnel, private crash investigators, insurance claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety professionals, military investigators, animators, and graphic designers involved in crash analysis and reconstruction.
Prerequisites and Recommendations
Due to the technical complexity of the material, successful completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or equivalent experience is mandatory. Students without strong mathematics and physics backgrounds are strongly encouraged to complete IPTM's 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course prior to enrollment.

Important Notes
This course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit for the FDLE Traffic Accident Reconstruction course in Florida. Accredited individuals may retake this course for ACTAR continuing education units only once every five years following their initial five-year accreditation period to maintain current skills. This course is not eligible for certificate discounts.
