How to Apply

Step 1:
Register for the CPCA Written Exam at PoliceApp.com.

·         Exams are hosted on various dates and locations across Connecticut.

·         You must score 75% or higher before applying.

Step 2:
Obtain your current C.H.I.P card at the 40th percentile or above.

·         No current card? Schedule and pass your physical agility test as soon as possible.

Step 3:
Top scorers are invited to Fairfield for the Oral Board Examination.

·         Not all candidates with 75% advance; the cutoff score could be higher if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

·         U.S. Citizen

·         At least 21 years old at time of appointment

·         High school diploma or GED

·         Valid driver’s license

You must also successfully complete:

·         CPCA Written Exam (75%+)

·         Physical Agility Test (C.H.I.P card, 40%+)

·         Oral Board Exam

·         Prelim & follow-up background interviews

·         Polygraph & psychological examinations

·         Full background investigation

·         Medical exam & drug screen

·         Additional assessments as determined

·         Interview with Board of Police Commissioners

Disqualifiers
Any of the following eliminate you from consideration:

·         Any felony conviction

·         Any Class A/B misdemeanor (or equivalent from another state)

·         Any conviction for perjury, false statement, or domestic violence-related misdemeanor

·         Dismissal, resignation, or retirement from law enforcement for misconduct or malfeasance

·         Negative outcomes in background checks (criminal, driving, employment, financial, drug history)

Salary & Benefits

·         Salary: $75,241 – $91,941 (at 20 years including longevity)

·         Medical, dental, and optical insurance (Cigna)

·         Retirement after 25 years of service

·         7 paid vacation days after 6 months, 14 after 12 months

Important Information

·         Conditional job offers do not guarantee hiring; you must complete all steps and be selected by the Board.

·         After six months, you must reside within Connecticut and within 50 miles of Fairfield.

·         All new hires must complete Connecticut Police Academy training and a 12-week field training program.
