STONINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR POLICE / FIRE / EMS - ENTRY LEVEL, FULL-TIME DISPATCHER 

The Town of Stonington is currently accepting applications for the position of part-time dispatcher. Our dispatchers provide the highest quality of service to improve the quality of life for the Citizens of and visitors of Stonington while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and ethics.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Police Department Dispatcher - Answer telephone and 911 systems, collect required information and assign proper patrol / fire / EMS units. Answers and asks variety of questions to determine nature and extent of emergency. Operates State of Connecticut “COLLECT” computer and N.C.I.C. computer systems, performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee. Participate in all phases of training necessary to acquire the knowledge and skills required of the position. Monitor all security cameras, including prisoners. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Public Safety Certification as a State of Connecticut 911 Emergency Dispatcher is highly preferred. Possessing the ability to operate 2-way radios, CAD systems (with typing skills), and proper oral / written communications skills.  Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and have the ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation. Knowledge of Stonington streets is highly preferred as is the proven ability to multi-task in a stressful environment.

Starting Salary- $26.02/HOUR w/ full benefits

Eligibility Requirements

• A minimum of 21 years of age.
• You must be a Citizen of the United States.
• You must be a high school graduate or possess a GED
• You must possess a valid driver’s license.
• You must be of good character and high moral standards.
• You must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, to read and write proficiently in the English language. Candidates must be able to write clear and concise reports.
