BERKLEE COLLEGE POLICE DEPARTMENT 

IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR  DISPATCHERS

The Berklee Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Dispatcher to join our Communications Division. As a member of our civilian support staff, you will be at the epicenter of our Police and Public Safety services and most often the first voice anyone will hear. We are seeking candidates with previous experience but we are willing to train the right candidate. We are also offering a hiring incentive to those successful candidates; see below.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must be a United States citizen 
  • Applicant must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Applicant must be at least 21 years of age
  • Applicant must be able to effectively speak, read, and write in English
  • Applicant must possess strong verbal and written skills
  • Applicant must pass and maintain CJIS operator credentials within 30 days of employment
  • Applicant must have a demonstrated proficiency with all computer systems including typing
  • Applicant must be able to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Applicant must possess a demonstrated ability to multitask while remaining calm and professional in stressful and emergency situations
    • Applicant must be able to perform all duties in an effective and efficient manner, demonstrating respect and professionalism to all parties, while maintaining the ethics and values of the College
    • Applicant must be able to interact and communicate effectively with the public
    • Applicant must be able to adjust to changing situations to meet emergency requirements
    • Applicant must be able to gather information through questioning individuals and accurately assemble and organize such information in accordance with established procedures
    • Applicant must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
    • Applicant must be able to successfully complete Police Dispatcher Communication Certification Training
  • Applicant must have the ability to work rotating shift work, including weekends, nights, and holidays to provide coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
  • Applicant must be available to work overtime with limited or short notice
  • Applicant must be able to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
  • Successful candidate(s) will be required to pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • As a condition of employment, the candidate will need to be fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 
  •  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a dispatcher in either a campus law enforcement or municipal law enforcement setting
  • Previous experience with IMC for Computer Aided Dispatch and or Record Management 
  • Previous experience with RAVE Guardian App, Lenel, Colleague, and or Informer
  • Previous experience with two-way radio and portable communication devices
  • Basic understanding of police operations and the role dispatch plays

 

SALARY:

The Berklee Police Department is pleased to offer a competitive and comprehensive salary and benefits package. Specific hourly rates will be determined by combined education and experience and/or at the discretion of the Command Staff upon hiring. Below are some range guidelines; as a reminder specific rates will be discussed and based off the totality of circumstances but these are to provide an idea.

  • Entry Level Dispatchers could expect a starting wage of $25.00 per hour
  • Reasonably Experienced Dispatchers could expect a starting wage of approximately $28.00 per hour
  • Exceptionally Experienced Dispatchers could expect a starting wage of approximately $31.00 per hour

 

SIGN-ON BONUS:

The Berklee Police Department is pleased to offer a recruitment incentive to those applicants who successfully pass the entire recruitment process. This incentive is for a total of $2,000.00 to be paid in the form of $1,000.000 upon successful completion of the on-boarding process and another payment of $1,000.00 after six months of employment. This incentive is only available for full-time employment and limited to (5) current vacancies.

 

HIRING PROCESS:

The Berklee Police Department hiring process is comprehensive, here is an overview of what to expect:

  1. The Department will review applicants and may request materials such as resume and/or cover letter
  2. The Department will invite applicants to their first Oral Interview before a panel of department members
  3. The Department will invite applicants who pass the oral board to complete a thorough Background Investigation
  4. The Department will invite applicants who bass the background investigation successfully to a Second Oral Interview before the Command Staff
  5. The Department will then inform applicants of their Comprehensive Psychological Exam date
  6.
