Overview
Applications are now being accepted to fill 2 vacancies for the position of Corporal with the Connecticut State Capitol Police Department. Corporals report directly to Sergeants and serve as first-line supervisors responsible for both patrol and supervisory duties. They oversee sworn officers assigned to their shift, ensuring effective field operations, adherence to departmental policy, and the professional delivery of police services throughout the Capitol complex. Corporal assignments include a balance of active patrol work, incident response, and leadership functions such as conducting roll calls, assigning posts, reviewing reports, and mentoring officers.
Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to service, accountability, and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications
- Have no Class A or Class B misdemeanor convictions or any act of perjury or false statement.
- Have no felony convictions.
- Did not resign, retire or dismissed from a police officer position while under investigation for malfeasance or serious misconduct.
- 4 years experience as a certified police officer.
Hiring Process
1- Application review.
2- Qualified candidates will be scheduled for a promotional style oral board examination.
3- Successful candidates will move on to the chief's interview.
4- Selected candidates will be given a conditional offer of employment.
5- Background investigation- to include a polygraph, as well as psychological and medical evaluations.
Compensation
$78,728 to $114,469
