Course Overview
This five-day Nevada POST-certified program prepares law enforcement operators to become proficient tactical drone pilots capable of integrating unmanned aerial vehicle technology into their agency's operational framework. The curriculum emphasizes practical skill development, mission planning, and real-world deployment strategies that enhance situational awareness and intelligence gathering during tactical operations.
What You'll Learn
Day 1 – Simulator Mastery & Platform Control
- Master quadcopter and fixed-wing aircraft operations through progressive simulator training
- Develop aircraft orientation, emergency response procedures, and spatial awareness skills
- Undergo performance evaluations assessing control precision and operational readiness
Day 2 – Live Flight Skills Development & Preflight Discipline
- Complete structured preflight inspection and mission preparation protocols
- Transition from simulator to hands-on flight training with mini and standard quadcopters
- Practice low-altitude maneuvering, precision hovering, obstacle navigation, and visual overwatch positioning
Day 3 – Tactical Integration Within Law Enforcement Operations
- Understand how UAV systems integrate into law enforcement agency structures and operational roles
- Learn payload selection, camera systems, and tactical drone components
- Develop mission plans based on law enforcement scenarios including objective definition and communication protocols
- Execute tactical task assignments simulating real-world operational deployment
Day 4 – Hands-On Tactical Drone Flight Exercises
- Execute progressive live tactical exercises requiring aerial overwatch establishment
- Investigate suspicious locations and track movement patterns
- Provide real-time intelligence to ground units and support containment strategies
- Conduct full tactical mission simulations with planning, execution, and debriefing components
Day 5 – Advanced Exercises, Operational Task Delivery & Testing
- Perform high-complexity hands-on missions simulating active law enforcement scenarios
- Execute structured operational assignments demonstrating efficient deployment and actionable intelligence delivery
- Complete final simulator challenge and live flight evaluation to verify operational competency
Prerequisites
Attendees must meet one of the following criteria:
- Currently certified law enforcement officer
- Current reserve law enforcement officer
- Current military (all branches) active duty, National Guard, or Reserve Component serving in military police roles
FAA Part 107 Recommendation
While not required for course attendance, all students are strongly encouraged to obtain their FAA Part 107 (Remote Pilot) License prior to enrollment. Without this certification, graduates cannot engage in commercial drone operations. An existing Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA) waiver is also acceptable as an alternative.
