Course Overview

This comprehensive 2-day, 20-hour program merges two advanced training modules into a single intensive course designed for law enforcement professionals working in investigation and patrol roles. The curriculum emphasizes the recognition and analysis of deceptive communication and criminal indicators encountered during roadside and investigative interactions.

Day One Content

The first day concentrates on detecting verbal and non-verbal deception. Participants explore how brain structures—specifically the prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and temporal lobes—contribute to deceptive behavior patterns. The training examines the role of stress and cultural factors in communication, alongside techniques for establishing behavioral baselines and identifying significant deviations. Officers study the preparation, delivery, defense, and aftermath phases of deception, learn to recognize pacifying behaviors, and practice distinguishing between rehearsed and spontaneous responses. Elicitation strategies applicable to both roadside and investigative interview settings are extensively covered.

Day Two Content

The second day addresses identification of criminal activity during traffic stops. Officers learn to recognize criminal driving patterns, vehicle registration anomalies, smuggling techniques, roadside selection methods, and deceptive travel narratives. Training focuses on developing observational skills that support reasonable suspicion and probable cause determinations, with emphasis on articulating findings for courtroom testimony and legal challenges.

About the Instructor

Nick Jackson brings 14+ years of law enforcement experience to this training, with over a decade dedicated to narcotics and criminal interdiction operations. His career achievements include recovering millions of dollars in illegal currency, seizing thousands of kilograms of controlled substances, and securing hundreds of felony convictions. The course reflects his operational background, combining evidence-based behavioral science with field-proven interdiction techniques that withstand legal scrutiny.

Key Training Points

  • Identifying verbal and non-verbal deceptive indicators
  • Establishing behavioral baselines and recognizing meaningful deviations
  • Analyzing pacifying behaviors and non-verbal communication leakage
  • Differentiating anxiety from deceptive behavior
  • Recognizing the distinction between rehearsed and spontaneous responses
  • Connecting behavioral observations to reasonable suspicion and probable cause
  • Documenting and defending deception findings in reports and testimony

Practical Training Methods

Students engage with real-world traffic stop and interview recordings, participate in scenario-based roadside interview exercises, and practice elicitation techniques through hands-on role-playing. Participants complete the training equipped to identify, analyze, and articulate deceptive behaviors in a manner that survives courtroom examination while advancing investigative objectives and protecting legal defensibility.
