This comprehensive two-day program equips patrol officers and deputies with practical interviewing techniques applicable to their daily street-level work. No prior interview experience is necessary to benefit from this training. Whether participants are new to the field or seeking to enhance their existing interviewing capabilities, the curriculum addresses patrol-specific interview challenges and opportunities.

Law enforcement officers working patrol routinely conduct interviews with suspects, victims, and witnesses as part of their core responsibilities. This course bridges the traditional gap by providing detective-level interview training at the patrol level, enabling officers to gather information effectively before cases advance to investigative units.

Course Topics:

  • Setting and achieving interview objectives through proper preparation
  • Building rapport using non-confrontational, evidence-based approaches
  • Preventing false confessions and recognizing unreliable admissions
  • Constructing accurate timelines and chronologies
  • Strategic question framing and perspective adjustment techniques
  • Application of the funnel method for information gathering
  • Effective use of evidence as an interview tool (SUE)
  • Empathy-based interviewing methodologies
  • Determining underlying motivations and root causes
  • Validating confessions and testing admissions
  • Eliminating counterproductive interview habits
  • Real-world scenario-based training exercises

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel outside of 21 days prior to the course start date and receive a full refund less a 5% processing fee. No refunds are issued for cancellations within 21 days of the course; however, student substitutions are permitted.
