Course Overview
Every investigation requires reliable information obtained through effective interviewing and interrogation of victims, witnesses, and persons of interest. This comprehensive five-day program equips detectives and criminal investigators with modern, evidence-based techniques that comply with current forensic standards. Participants will update their interview and interrogation skillsets to maximize information gathering while preventing contamination and distinguishing between truthful and deceptive statements.
The course emphasizes three critical variables that distinguish successful interviewers: mastery of narrative-based interviewing, recognition and management of subjects' emotional and cognitive changes, and the ability to adapt techniques based on individual personality types and personal histories.

About the Instructor
Stan Walters is an internationally recognized authority on investigative interviewing and interrogation with over four decades of experience in the field. He developed the Cognitive Reliability Framework™, a science-based approach to assessing reliability in high-stakes interviews and evaluating statements for investigative and courtroom purposes. All of his courses are reviewed against current peer-reviewed research before delivery, ensuring content reflects the latest findings in psychology, memory science, and behavioral analysis.
Walters has taught investigative interviewing programs at 23 U.S. military installations worldwide and is trusted by law enforcement, military, and intelligence professionals. He has authored several publications including From First Contact to Final Question: An Introduction to Evidence-Based Interview and Interrogation Techniques and co-authored peer-reviewed scientific papers on credibility and investigative interviewing.
