Traffic Crash Reconstruction - Level II by IPTM
Traffic Crash Reconstruction - Level II
This advanced course provides traffic crash reconstructionists with comprehensive instruction in contemporary theories and methodologies of collision analysis. Participants will deepen their understanding of crash reconstruction principles while exploring topics that have traditionally received minimal attention, alongside innovative content relevant to the field. The program serves as in-service training for practicing reconstructionists and is particularly valuable for those pursuing ACTAR certification.
The curriculum emphasizes the mathematical and physical principles underlying crash analysis. Participants will review and apply equations that integrate crash data to interpret collision mechanics, with particular focus on skid characteristics, spin analysis, critical speed yaw analysis, and friction calculations. Additional concepts covered include time-distance analysis, uniform circular motion, pole and narrow object impacts, and conservation of linear momentum principles.
Course Content
- Geometric and trigonometric applications in crash analysis
- Dynamics, kinematics, and Newton's Laws of Motion expressed as vector equations
- Drag and acceleration factor testing methodologies
- Critical speed yaw analysis techniques
- Distinctions between CSY and spin analysis approaches
- Time-distance analytical methods
- Impact analysis for poles and narrow objects
- Linear momentum conservation applications
- Rollover crash reconstruction fundamentals
- Uniform projectile motion and airborne speed determination
The course incorporates multiple in-class projects and a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary capstone project designed to reinforce learning outcomes.
Intended Audience
This training is designed for law enforcement and civilian traffic crash investigators, claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety officers, military investigative personnel, animators, and graphic designers, as well as ACTAR candidates. Florida sworn law enforcement personnel may qualify for FDOT grant-funded seating, though federal and military law enforcement personnel in Florida do not meet this eligibility requirement.
