This comprehensive 2-day, 20-hour program merges Interdiction Academy 2.0 with Deceptive Behavioral Detection 2.0 to provide law enforcement professionals at all levels—from investigative units to patrol divisions—with advanced skills in identifying criminal behavior and deception.

First Day Focus: Participants explore the neurological and psychological foundations of deceptive behavior, examining how the prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and temporal lobes contribute to lying. The curriculum addresses how stress and cultural factors shape communication patterns, equips officers to establish reliable behavioral baselines, and teaches recognition of significant departures from normal behavior. Training covers deception preparation and execution, recognition of self-soothing gestures, differences between learned and genuine responses, and questioning methods applicable during roadside stops and formal investigations.

Second Day Focus: Officers develop expertise in spotting indicators of criminal activity during vehicle encounters, including driving patterns associated with trafficking, vehicle documentation irregularities, concealment techniques, suspect site selection, false narratives, and suspicious travel stories. Participants learn to translate observations into legally sound reasonable suspicion and probable cause, with emphasis on documenting findings that withstand judicial scrutiny.

About the Instructor: Nick Jackson brings extensive expertise as a nationally recognized interdiction specialist with over 14 years in law enforcement. His background includes 10+ years focused on narcotics and criminal interdiction, with operational achievements including substantial currency seizures, significant controlled substance recoveries, and numerous felony arrests. The instruction emphasizes field-tested interdiction methods, behavioral science principles, and courtroom-defensible practices.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Detect and interpret verbal and non-verbal indicators of deception
  • Establish personal and situational behavioral baselines for comparison
  • Recognize self-soothing movements and stress responses
  • Differentiate nervousness from actual dishonesty
  • Identify prepared statements versus authentic, spontaneous speech
  • Connect behavioral observations to reasonable suspicion and probable cause
  • Document and articulate deception findings in written reports and courtroom testimony

Training Methods: The course employs interactive learning strategies including analysis of real traffic stop and interview recordings, practical roadside interview scenarios, and hands-on practice of elicitation methods with fellow participants. Attendees will develop the ability to identify and articulate deceptive conduct in ways that satisfy legal requirements, ensuring both investigative effectiveness and legal defensibility.
