Course Description

This intensive two-and-a-half-day program is tailored for detectives and investigators who focus on homicide cases and violent crimes against persons. The curriculum provides a methodical, phase-by-phase framework for conducting thorough homicide investigations, starting from the initial report through crime scene assessment, evidence management, suspect identification, and trial readiness.

Throughout the training, participants will develop expertise in several critical areas, including:

  • Classification systems for homicides and offender behavioral patterns
  • Analysis of suicide investigations and distinguishing characteristics
  • Recognition and investigation of equivocal or artificially staged death scenes
  • Prosecution strategies for cases without recovered remains
  • Proper examination and handling of unidentified human remains

The course places significant emphasis on meticulous record-keeping, comprehensive report preparation, and effective courtroom presentation. Participants will also learn how to coordinate effectively with coroners, medical examiners, and prosecuting attorneys throughout the investigative process. The program introduces modern investigative technologies and methodologies, including advanced cellular phone data analysis, evidence database systems, and the role of social media platforms in contemporary criminal investigations.
