Course Overview
This intensive five-day program prepares law enforcement investigators to conduct comprehensive homicide and death investigations with the rigor and evidence quality required for successful prosecution. Through structured instruction and hands-on analysis, participants develop the ability to classify deaths accurately and investigate complex cases involving multiple victims, violent crimes targeting vulnerable populations, unexplained disappearances, and sexual assaults.
Course Content
The training begins with an interactive case review where students examine evidence, exchange observations, and determine appropriate death classifications including accidental deaths, suicides, and homicides.
Participants will master a systematic investigative methodology for managing high-profile and complex cases, with particular emphasis on:
- Multiple homicides and violent crimes against vulnerable populations
- Unexplained child disappearances and abductions
- Sexual assault investigations
Real-world case studies throughout the curriculum demonstrate practical investigative strategies and provide valuable lessons from actual cases.
Advanced Topics
The course explores modern investigative techniques and emerging technologies, including forensic genealogy, DNA phenotyping, data analytics, cell phone forensics, and social media investigation methods. Special attention is given to investigating sexually motivated child abductions, managing cases involving unidentified human remains, building prosecutable cases without physical remains, and supporting investigator wellness and mental health.
