Course Description
Many law enforcement agencies do not maintain specialized death investigation divisions, placing the burden on uniformed officers and supervisors to handle these critical investigations. This intensive two-day program equips first responders and supervisory personnel with essential knowledge, competencies, and protocols needed to execute comprehensive initial and follow-up death investigations.
Participants will engage with a variety of instructional methods including detailed lectures, real-world case studies, and hands-on practical instruction to develop a thorough understanding of postmortem physiological changes, crime scene control and preservation, applicable legal requirements, and investigative methodologies relevant to diverse death scenarios. The curriculum specifically addresses challenging situations such as officer-involved shooting deaths and deaths occurring while in custody.
