Homicide Investigation

This comprehensive course is designed to equip law enforcement professionals—whether initial responders or lead investigators—with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to conduct thorough and professional investigations of homicide situations.

Participants will gain understanding of various homicide types and the investigative approaches most effective for each scenario. The course covers a systematic methodology for managing crime scenes, beginning with the initial response and progressing through proper documentation and evidence collection procedures. Students will also explore how contemporary forensic science and investigative technology can enhance their investigative work.

Beyond the immediate crime scene, the curriculum addresses criminal personality profiling, interrogation methodologies, and strategies for managing media interaction during death investigations.

Intended Audience

This course is appropriate for patrol officers, newly assigned and experienced detectives, investigations supervisors, crime scene technicians, medical examiner and coroner investigators, and military investigative personnel. Enrollment is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers and personnel directly assigned to law enforcement agencies.

For Florida law enforcement officers, successful completion of this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit in place of the FDLE "Injury and Death Investigation" course.
