Course Overview

This advanced five-day program equips forensic investigators with the technical expertise needed to repair and restore damaged digital evidence devices. Participants develop hands-on skills in diagnosing hardware failures and performing controlled repairs on mobile devices and USB media while preserving forensic integrity throughout the process. By restoring device functionality through proper repair techniques, examiners can successfully extract and analyze critical data when standard forensic workflows are not viable.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose and repair compromised mobile device evidence using forensically sound methodologies
  • Restore device functionality to enable successful data extraction and recovery
  • Perform controlled disassembly, repair operations, and reassembly of mobile devices and USB flash drives
  • Apply heat-based techniques and manual soldering while maintaining evidence integrity
  • Achieve CERT-F certification by successfully completing a practical competency examination

Hands-On Practical Training

Course content includes practical experience with:

  • Mobile device diagnostics and hardware failure analysis
  • Port, screen, and button replacement procedures
  • Heat-based component repair techniques
  • Manual micro-soldering applications
  • USB flash drive repair and data recovery

Optional Training Kits

Participants may purchase optional training kits to continue practicing repair and chip-off techniques following the course. These kits include precision soldering and heat-application tools, USB flash drive and data-port repair accessories, and LCD screen and button replacement components. Training kits are not required for course completion.

Prerequisites

Completion of the CCO + CCPA certification path is strongly recommended before attending CERT-F to ensure familiarity with standard forensic workflows and proper evidence handling procedures prior to engaging in advanced repair and recovery techniques.
