Overview

This is an advanced negotiation course designed for law enforcement crisis and hostage negotiators who have successfully completed a 40-hour basic certification course. The three-day training delivers specialized instruction on handling complex negotiation scenarios involving individuals with psychiatric conditions, personality disorders, and empathy impairments.

Course Content

Day One: The course begins with a review of fundamental negotiation techniques, including active listening skills, followed by instruction in more sophisticated methods such as influence and persuasion tactics. The instructor shares real-world examples and case debriefings from his extensive professional background to illustrate these concepts in practical contexts.

Day Two: Participants will explore advanced topics centered on negotiating with individuals experiencing various psychiatric conditions, with particular emphasis on those exhibiting personality disorders or empathy deficits. A detailed 15-hour hostage standoff debriefing from the instructor's experience provides concrete examples of the principles being taught.

Day Three: The final day focuses on collaborative strategies for effective coordination between Incident Command, SWAT teams, and negotiation personnel. Additional topics include text-based negotiations, kidnapping scenarios, and other specialized situations as time permits.

Prerequisites: Participants must have completed a 40-hour basic hostage negotiation certification course prior to enrollment.
