Investigation and Prosecution of Cold Case Homicides

This comprehensive two-day training program is designed to enhance the investigative techniques and prosecutorial strategies necessary for successfully resolving long-standing and unsolved homicide cases. Participants will examine essential investigative, forensic, and prosecution methodologies through detailed analysis of actual cases, demonstrated best practices, interactive group discussions, and current resources. The course emphasizes proven strategies to prevent common pitfalls that can hinder cold case prosecutions and covers practices for establishing and maintaining an effective cold case unit.

Location: Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management, 420 Electronics Parkway, Liverpool, NY 13088 (Syracuse area)

Cost: $450.00

Duration: 16 hours of instruction

Target Audience: This training is appropriate for crime analysis team members, forensic service units, coroners and medical examiners, law enforcement personnel, and prosecutors.

  • Case studies and student case reviews

Instructors: The course is led by experienced professionals including James Holmes, Special Agent (Ret.) with the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, and Mark MacKizer, NCJTC Associate Instructor and retired FBI Special Agent with extensive experience in violent crime investigations and the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit.

What's Included: Training fees cover 16 hours of instruction, program materials, and instructional costs. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for meals, travel, and lodging.
