Traffic Crash Reconstruction
This comprehensive 80-hour course represents the third offering in IPTM's specialized three-course sequence focused on traffic crash investigation. Building directly on the foundation established by the Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course, students engage in an intensive examination of vehicle dynamics principles and mathematical reconstruction techniques.
Course Content and Topics
Participants will explore the derivation and practical application of widely-used speed calculation formulas, with particular emphasis on determining vehicle velocity at the moment of impact through conservation of linear momentum principles. The course covers vehicle behavior during collisions as explained by Newton's three laws of motion, and includes specialized discussions addressing the unique dynamics of commercial vehicles and motorcycles during collision events. Students will also develop competency in establishing the direction of vehicle travel, identifying the initial point of contact, and determining precise vehicle positioning on the roadway.
A significant component of this program involves hands-on project work designed to provide practical experience in crash reconstruction methodology. Each participant must diagram and analyze multiple crash scenarios and perform vector sum analysis for each case studied.

This course serves law enforcement professionals, private traffic crash investigators, claims adjusters, engineers, legal professionals, safety officers, military investigative personnel, animators, and graphic designers.
Prerequisites and Requirements
Due to the advanced technical nature of the material, successful completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or an equivalent program is mandatory. Students lacking a solid foundation in mathematics and physics are strongly encouraged to complete IPTM's 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course prior to enrollment.
Materials to Bring
Required items include a scientific calculator and compass. A 1½-inch three-ring binder is recommended for note-taking and course material organization.
Special Considerations
For Florida law enforcement officers, please note that this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit for the FDLE Traffic Accident Reconstruction course. Accredited ACTAR individuals may retake this course once every five years following their initial five-year accreditation period for continuing education units and skill enhancement purposes.
Course Fee: $1,195.00
Class hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Multiple session dates and locations are available throughout 2026 and 2027 at various sites including Arizona, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas.
