Course Overview
This advanced program represents the third course in a specialized three-course sequence offered by IPTM. Building on the foundation established in the Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course, participants will engage in an in-depth exploration of vehicle dynamics and the mathematical principles underlying crash reconstruction methodology.
Course Content
Students will examine the fundamental speed formulas used in the field, including their derivation and practical application. The curriculum emphasizes calculating vehicle speed at the moment of impact through conservation of linear momentum principles. Participants will explore how vehicles behave during collisions by applying Newton's three laws of motion. Special attention is given to the unique dynamics of commercial vehicles and motorcycles involved in collisions. Throughout the course, students will develop skills in determining direction of travel, identifying initial points of contact, and establishing vehicle positioning on roadways.
The course features extensive hands-on project work designed to provide practical experience with actual crash reconstruction scenarios. Each participant must diagram and analyze multiple crash situations and complete vector sum analysis for each scenario examined.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for law enforcement officers and private traffic crash investigators, claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety officers, military investigative personnel, animators, and graphic designers.

Prerequisites
Due to the advanced technical nature of the material, successful completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or an equivalent program is mandatory. Participants without a robust background in mathematics and physics are strongly encouraged to complete IPTM's 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course prior to enrollment.

Important Notes
Florida law enforcement officers should be aware that this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit for the FDLE course "Traffic Accident Reconstruction." Individuals holding ACTAR accreditation may retake this course for continuing education units only once every five years following their initial five-year accreditation period for the purpose of maintaining current skills. This course is not eligible for certificate discounts.
