Homicide Investigation

This comprehensive 40-hour course is designed for law enforcement professionals at all experience levels, from first responders to lead investigators, seeking to develop proficiency in handling homicide cases. Participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary to conduct thorough and professional investigations of potential homicide situations.

The curriculum covers a wide range of homicide investigation topics, including proper death scene preservation and documentation, the critical duties of the first officer arriving at a scene, systematic investigative procedures, and team-based approaches to death investigations. Students will explore various categories of death, including autoerotic fatalities and suicides, and learn methods for determining both the cause and manner of death as well as estimating time of death.

Beyond crime scene management, the course addresses criminal personality profiling, the distinction between organized and disorganized crime scenes, death scene search methodologies, interrogation techniques specific to homicide cases, and strategies for managing media involvement in high-profile investigations. Participants will benefit from exposure to real case examples and photographs, with experienced instructors walking through actual crime scenes to illustrate investigative principles and decision-making processes.

Course Length: 40 hours

Daily Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Fee: $895.00

Audience: This course is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers and personnel assigned directly to law enforcement agencies, including patrol officers, newly assigned and seasoned detectives, investigations supervisors, crime scene technicians, medical examiner and coroner investigators, and military investigative personnel.

Note: For Florida law enforcement officers, this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit for the FDLE course "Injury and Death Investigation."

Multiple class sessions are offered throughout 2026 and 2027 at various locations including Altamonte Springs, Jacksonville, and Tarpon Springs in Florida, as well as Alpharetta and Lawrenceville in Georgia, and Farmington in New Mexico.
