Course Overview
This advanced program represents the third course in a comprehensive three-part series offered by IPTM. Traffic Crash Reconstruction expands upon the foundation established in the Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course, providing participants with an intensive examination of vehicle dynamics and advanced analytical techniques essential for professional crash investigators.
Course Duration and Schedule
The program spans 80 hours of instruction, conducted during standard business hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Multiple sessions are available throughout 2026 and 2027 at various locations across the United States.
Primary Topics Covered
Participants will examine the mathematical foundation and derivation of widely-used speed calculation formulas, apply conservation of linear momentum to determine vehicle impact speeds, and analyze collision behavior through the application of Newton's three laws of motion. The curriculum also addresses the unique dynamics of commercial vehicles and motorcycles during collision events, as well as methodologies for determining direction of travel, initial contact points, and vehicle positioning on roadways. Vector sum analysis and comprehensive diagramming of collision scenarios form an integral part of the coursework.
Course Structure
The program includes substantial hands-on project work designed to provide practical experience in crash reconstruction methodology. Students will analyze multiple crash scenarios and conduct detailed vector sum analysis for each, reinforcing theoretical concepts through real-world application.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for law enforcement and private traffic crash investigators, insurance claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety officers, military investigative personnel, as well as professionals in animation and graphic design fields.
Prerequisites
Due to the highly technical nature of the material, successful completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or equivalent is mandatory. For individuals without a solid foundation in mathematics and physics, IPTM recommends completing the 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course prior to enrollment.
Required Materials
Students must bring a scientific calculator and compass to all sessions. A 1.5-inch three-ring binder is recommended for course materials.
Cost
The course fee is $1,195.00 per participant.
Additional Information
Florida law enforcement officers should note that this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit under the FDLE Traffic Accident Reconstruction designation. ACTAR-accredited professionals may retake this course once every five years after their initial five-year accreditation period for continuing education units and skills updating purposes.
