Undercover Drug Enforcement Techniques

This comprehensive 40-hour training program is designed for undercover officers and cover team members engaged in the challenging and demanding work of undercover drug enforcement operations. The curriculum addresses the critical legal, operational, and safety considerations that personnel in this specialized field must understand and master.

Throughout the course, participants will develop practical skills essential to undercover work, including creating and maintaining effective cover identities, perfecting appearance and demeanor, simulating drug use credibly, and employing appropriate street terminology and vernacular. The program also covers techniques for managing suspicion, handling confidential informants, and fulfilling cover team responsibilities.

The training explores key operational components such as controlled substance overview, undercover investigation methodologies, operational planning procedures, drug identification and field-testing protocols, surveillance techniques, and stress management strategies. Additional topics include flash roll management, confidential informant utilization and control, legal frameworks governing undercover investigations, and proper evidence documentation and presentation.

A distinctive feature of this course is the incorporation of extensive role-playing scenarios and realistic field exercises that enable participants to refine their techniques and approach when engaging with various levels of drug trafficking organizations. Some of these practical exercises are conducted during evening hours, requiring students to commit additional training time beyond the standard 40-hour class schedule.

Intended Audience: This training is appropriate for narcotics investigators, narcotics unit supervisors, specialized units conducting narcotic investigations, and drug unit commanders. Enrollment is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers and personnel directly assigned to law enforcement agencies.
