ABOUT OUR TOWN
A great New England town, located between New Haven and Hartford, as well as New York City and Boston, and home to over 45,000 residents.
OUR DEPARTMENT
Records Division:
- Serving as the repository for the records of the department and maintains investigatory reports, evidence, found property and criminal history information
- Disseminating any records-related information from the Wallingford Police Department
- Creating and disseminating NIBRS/UCR reports
- Processing and issuing various state and municipal permits
- The administration of the Town of Wallingford’s parking ticket program
- Public fingerprinting
Traffic Division:
- The Traffic Division is a special service support function of the Wallingford Police Department staffed with a Division Supervisor, who is a Sergeant, and uniformed officers.
Investigative Services Division:
- The Investigative Services Division is a special services support function of the Wallingford Police Department staffed with a Division Commander, who is a Lieutenant, and a complement of supervisors, investigators, and clerical support.
Professional Standards & Training Division:
- Maintenance of the Agency’s P.O.S.T. Tier III accreditation
- Internal Affairs investigations
- Coordinating new employee training and orientation, police officer in-service training, and continual P.O.S.T.-mandated review training
Patrol Division:
- Routine patrol to encompass the prevention of crime and disorder
- Handling calls for service
- The enforcement of laws
- Community-oriented / problem-solving activities
- Routine traffic accident investigation
- Assistance to the public in emergency situations
Community Impact Unit:
- Special investigations assigned by the Administration
- The School Officer Program and public schools’ liaison with respect to safety matters
- Crime prevention programs
- Block watch programs
- Community relations initiatives
Communications Center:
- The Communications Center is an operational function of the Wallingford Police Department and shall consist of a number of civilian dispatchers.
Emergency Response Team:
- The Emergency Response Team is a special service support function of the Wallingford Police Department comprised of specially trained and equipped officers responsible for a “team” response to high-risk situations (i.e., hostage situations, barricaded subject).
Field Training & Evaluation Program:
- The Agency’s Field Training and Evaluation Program begins when a recruit police officer graduates from the Connecticut Police Academy or one of the other area POST-accredited academies.
- The recruit will then begin a 16-week training and evaluation program where the recruit rides with an experienced Wallingford Police Field Training Officer (FTO) that teaches the recruit, through hands-on experience, the duties and responsibilities of a Wallingford Police Officer.
