Job Announcement
The Town of East Haven announces an opening in the position of Crossing Guard in the Police Department.
Compensation: $15.69/hour
Hours: 10 Hours per week; 1 hour in the morning and afternoon
PRIMARY DUTY SHALL BE TO SAFELY CROSS CHILDREN AT SCHOOL
CROSSINGS. Crossing guards are not to engage in traffic control. They are to watch for gaps in traffic and walk children across the roadway while holding a STOP SIGN in such a manner that is visible to approaching vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABLITY.
Ability to use accurate judgement of traffic flow, speed and direction of travel. Regular and prompt attendance is essential to this position. Work is performed outside and is subject to the elements such as heat, cold and wet conditions and involves walking and standing for long periods of time.
Please note that crossing guard positions are classified as PER DIEM and therefore, are not subject to paid-time-off benefits to include personal, vacation and sick time. You will only be paid for the hours you work. Crossing guards are expected to work 180 school days a year.
Candidates must successfully complete a background investigation prior to employment.
