Job Announcement
Spanish Speaking academy will begin Thursday, April 13, 2023.

The goal of the department’s Citizen Police Academy is to enhance communication and understanding between the department and citizens. In an overall approach to community policing, citizens will participate and learn about their police department, its mission and goals, and the men and women of the department who serve the community daily.
Each week, students will learn about different aspects of law enforcement including laws of arrest, patrol techniques, domestic violence and crisis intervention, firearms safety, crime scene management, and traffic enforcement. Students will be given many opportunities for hands-on learning both in and outside the actual classroom.
Once students graduate, our goal is to have a continued partnership. Interested graduates will be allowed to continue as volunteers and help assist police with different city functions. They will be a part of a group called “Citizens on Patrol.” More information about the goals and requirements of this group will be detailed during academy classes.
To attend the Citizen Police Academy, individuals must complete a Citizen Police Academy Application or online by clicking HERE. Once complete, you must return it to the Duluth Police Department. Parts of the application require a Notary present and the form to be notarized. Our Records Department can notarize this for you (during regular business hours) for your convenience.
