The Deptford Township Police Department operates a full-time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, uniformed Patrol Division. Our officers are committed to providing the highest level of professional service to our community at all times. The Patrol Division is currently staffed with Officers in a four squad formation. They are assigned to cover the entire geographic area of our Township 24 hours a day. These Officers work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our resident and visiting population.
Deptford Township Police Department has career advancement opportunities through the NJ Civil Service Commission. Deptford Township Police Department consists of a Patrol Division, Special Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Traffic Safety Unit, and an officer assigned to the Deptford Township School District.
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must hold an NJPTC Certification for Police Officer or waive able SLEO2 (an officer who attended a full time police academy)
Job Description/General Duties:
Officers would be initially assigned to the Patrol Division withing Deptford Township Police Department. Officers in Patrol Division provide emergency and general services for a variety of call for service, and in 2024 patrol officers answered in excess of 52,000 calls for service. The Patrol Division also works to enforce the Motor Vehicle Code of the State of New Jersey to ensure the safety of our motoring public. Deptford residents and our visiting guests can rest assured that the Patrol Division stands ready to assist them in their times of need and in general. We are a service oriented Division with our focus on the prevention, detection, and apprehension of criminal offenders. Moreover, we are always available to assist our public with a variety of non-emergency issues and will try our best to serve your needs relative to our resources.
Currently, our officers are working many directed patrols and public safety initiatives in the interest of specific and general community and "quality of life" concerns. We will continue this commitment and would like all residents to work with us to make this community the safest place in the county. We would like to encourage participation of all citizens when witnessing suspicious activity or criminal behavior. If our citizens make every effort possible to get involved in solving our problems, we can develop and maintain partnerships with community leaders and citizens that have real effects on public safety.
Benefits:
Officers would be enrolled in the NJ State Health Benefits Program and the NJ Police and Fire Retirement System. All other benefits are subject to the collective bargaining agreement.
Hiring Process:
Applicants would be subject to a comprehensive background investigation, urinalysis, and formal panel interview prior to receiving a conditional offer. If a conditional offer is received, applicants would be subject to a psychological examination and comprehensive medical evaluation.
