Toms River - Certified Police Officer

The Toms River Police Department is Accepting Applications for our 2025 Certified Officer Selection Process to fill existing vacancies within the department.  Our recruiting process is ongoing however,  we are currently only accepting applicants from NJ PTC BCPO certified candidates.

Minimum Requirements:

• Possess a valid NJ PTC BCPO Certification or NJ PTC SLEO II Co-Mingled Certification with at least 6 months of waiver eligibility remaining at the time of the interview
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be a resident of the State of New Jersey during his or her term of appointment to this position
• Between the ages of 18 and 34 or actively enrolled in the NJ Police and Fire Pension System or qualify for a military or police service exemption as per the PFRS Member Handbook
• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Be able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently
• Possess a valid NJ Driver’s License upon appointment
• Successfully pass a background investigation
• Able to obtain a NJ PTC Police Officer License
• Be in sound body and good health, which must be certified by a department physician licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey
• Successfully pass a Psychological Evaluation 
• Be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any offense involving moral turpitude as this would make the applicant unfit to perform his or her duties
• Be physically capable of performing the function of the position in accordance with the NJ Police Training Commission
• Be able to pass a water safety/swim test or have successfully completed a police academy water safety program
