Acts as dispatcher for police, fire and ambulance services and general Town of Rocky Hill departments; performs varied clerical duties; deals with the public and law enforcement officials; uses Windows based computer aided dispatch programs; does related work as required.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Public Safety Dispatchers may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Based on the FOP Union Contract:
Starting Salary (7/1/2023) $64,862.73
After 48 Months of Service (7/1/2023): $84,858.80
Ability to speak clearly and to use proper English; ability to meet and deal with the public; typing ability; clerical aptitude and ability to keep records; ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations; ability to follow written and oral instructions; must pass pre-employment process and one year probationary period, must become NCIC/ COLLECT certified; must become state tele-communicator and EMD certified; must be available for shift work, weekends and holidays.
Applicants must have reached their eighteenth birthday by time of application submission; must have agility and endurance and be free from any disease or disability which adversely affects job performance; normal vision and hearing corrected are required.
Candidates must be citizens of the United States, of good moral character with no record of dishonorable discharge from any police or fire department or from the armed forces of the United States and no record of conviction for repetitive motor vehicle violations, misdemeanor offense or conviction of a serious misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or conviction of a felony. CITIZENSHIP: MUST BE A CITIZEN OF THE U.S. AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. A COPY OF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, GED CERTIFICATE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION. DRIVER’S LICENSE: A valid driver’s license is required. Applicants must have passed the Connecticut Police Chief Association (CPCA) Written test with a 75% or greater in order to submit their application by the deadline.

A Public Safety Dispatcher of the Town of Rocky Hill represents the Town and performs duties affecting safety and security of the community. The process of selecting people for employment as Police Officers is extremely important and includes several parts. Advancement onto the various phases of the examination process may at times be limited as the needs of the Rocky Hill Police Department dictate.
CPCA Dispatcher Written Examination. 75% or greater required to submit application.

The expected duration of the selection process may take between 4 and 6 months. Eligible candidates may remain on the active eligibility list throughout the active hiring process. If a candidate does not successfully pass the examination process, the Town of Rocky Hill allows for re-application six (6) months from the date of the last oral board examination. If the application or background investigation process reveals criminal activity involving a felony, Class A or Class B misdemeanor, or other activities inconsistent with standards of the department or POSTC, which effectively render the candidate ineligible for appointment to a position within the department at this time or in the future, the candidate will be so notified in writing.
