4 Vacancies anticipated for a September or November 2026 MPTC Academy!
Testing:
Applicants Must Take and Pass in order to apply:
- Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association Witten Examination
- CHIP Physical Fitness Test based on the MPTC Fitness Standards.
Minimum requirements
- Be a United States citizen;
- Must be between 21 and 39 at the date of hire (typically day one of the Academy)
- Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license;
- Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Must have or be able to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms, “LTC”
- Must be a resident of MA
- Applicant cannot have tattoos on their head, neck, and hands
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting hourly $30.59. $31.15 effective July 1, 2026 and $35.17 upon completion of Probationary period
Additional Benefits Include
- Educational incentive - Associates $3500, Bachelor's $8500, Master's $9000 paid bi-weekly over the course of the year
- 4 and 2 schedule

Application Process:
Prior to appointment, candidates are subject to:
- Extensive background check
- Psychological examination
- Medical examination
- Interview with the West Springfield Public Safety Commission
- Candidates will also be required to pass the MPTC fitness test.
- Upon appointment, candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a MPTC Academy
Applicants with a MPTC Academy certification will also be accepted and reviewed for possible appointment after the above requirements are completed.
