WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

(COUNTY OF WARREN)

POLICE OFFICER

Washington Township Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

NOTE: We are only accepting the first 150 applications. All applications are to be submitted via Policeapp.com and due on 03/22/2024.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must be a citizen of the United States.
2. Must be a resident of New Jersey at the time of application.
3. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
4. Must be of good moral character.
5. Must be at least eighteen (18) years old but not more than thirty-five (35) years
old at time of application.
6. Must not have been convicted of a crime or arrested and found guilty of a motor
vehicle offense.
7. Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
8. Must satisfy all requirements of police licensing pursuant to NJSA 52:17B.

TESTING INFORMATION

  1. PHYSICAL TEST: The physical test is scheduled for April 13th, 2024.  (NOTE: TIMES FOR PHYSICAL EXAMINATION WILL BE SENT OUT ONCE JOB POST IS CLOSED)

    • Location: Warren Hills Regional High School 41 Jackson Valley Rd. Washington NJ, 07882
    • Physical test is comprised of the following (5) events as per the NJ PTC:
    1. Push Ups- 1 minute timed event- 24 repetitions minimum
    2. Sit Ups- 1 minute timed event- 28 repetitions minimum
    3. 1.5 Mile Run- Timed event- 15:55 minutes minimum
    4. 300 meter run- 70.1 second minimum
    5. Vertical Jump- 15 inch minimum

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR PASSING THE PHYSICAL TEST:

  • The PTC minimum score in each event must be met in order to move on to the next physical event.
  • A failure to meet the minimum score in an event will result in your disqualification from the hiring process.
  • Exceeding the PTC minimum will result in additional points as per the departmental hiring policy. 
  • Applicants are required to score at least (25) points to successfully pass the physical test. 
  • Must bring at least (1) valid government issued photo identification.

WRITTEN EXAM

  • Date and Time: To be announced upon completion of Physical Test.
  • Location: Warren Hills Regional High School cafeteria – 41 Jackson Valley Rd Washington NJ, 07882
  • Administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police
  • A minimum passing score of 70% is needed to move on to the next portion of the hiring process.
  • Must bring at least (1) valid government issued photo identification.

 

HIRING PROCESS

  • Physical test administered by the Washington Township Police Department
  • Written test administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police
  • Oral interviews conducted by Washington Township Police Department
  • Comprehensive Background investigation
  • Medical examination
  • Psychological screening
  • Drug testing.
  • Pre-academy physical test as per PTC

 

SALARY

  • Starting salary for 2024 is $40,000.00 (Recruit) $48,960.00 upon completion of Police Academy
  • Top step Patrol Officer as per Appendix C of the current contract is $121,712.12.
