The Rockland Police Department is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies for the position of
Full-Time Police Officer. Minimum requirements for applying:
- Applicants must not be a convicted felon,
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of the exam,
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent,
- Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts driver's license,
- Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry a firearm pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Massachusetts P.O.S.T. commission.
The Rockland Police Department is a non-civil service department. We are a department that is a progressive, professional agency dedicated to providing superior service to our community. The Rockland Police Department is comprised of 35 sworn full-time officers. Specialty units within the department include Detective Division, K-9 Unit, Honor Guard Unit, Field Training Officers, School Resource Officers, Mountain Bike and Motorcycle Unit. The Rockland Police Department is also a member of METRO-LEC. Rockland is approximately 10.07 square miles with a population of 17,489.
The Rockland Police Department offers competitive salaries ranging from $52,000 - $76,500 plus additional benefits and incentives to include:

General duties and responsibilities of a Rockland Police Officer shall include being responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with Massachusetts General Laws, Rockland Police Department Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures. The job description doesn't imply an employment contract, nor is it intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which the employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor's request.
Candidates must complete: an extensive background investigation, medical and psychological examination and in person interview. If hired, within (1) year of appointment, employee shall reside within 15 miles of the limits of the Town of Rockland, in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws.
