The Pocono Township Police Department must safeguard the lives and property of the people it serves. The department will strive to reduce crime and enhance public safety in its jurisdiction. GENERAL INFORMATION
The Pocono Township Police Department was formed in 1968 with one patrolman. The current Police Department consists of twenty (20) full-time officers. The department leadership administration consists of a Chief of Police, a Patrol Sergeant, and a Detective Sergeant. Four (4) Corporals manage twelve (12) patrol officers working several platoons in 12-hour shifts. There are two (2) Detectives and two (2) full-time civilian administrative staff.
We provide 24/7 service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Pocono Township. The department is responsible for a jurisdiction covering 35 square miles, with 126 miles of roadway and a population of over 12,000. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions and complete a competitive process including but not limited to oral interviews, physical and psychological examination, polygraph examination, and comprehensive background investigation.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have a valid PA operator's license.
- Applicants must possess current ACT 120 MPOETC certification by the application deadline or be eligible to pass the ACT 120 certification exam by the end of the hiring process.
- Must be a citizen of the United States in good standing.
- Must meet or exceed all requirements and conditions for certification under MPOETC Act 120, the Pocono Township Police Department Police Officer Job Description, and the PTPD Selection and Hiring policy.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
- Timely and proper submission and receipt of application, resume, and cover letter
- Written Examination
- Physical Agility Fitness Testing
- Veteran preference points will be applied to candidates.
- Oral Interview 1 with the independent examination board
- Oral Interview 2 with Police Command Staff.
- Background investigation
- Polygraph examination.
- Medical evaluation
- Drug screening.
- Psychological evaluation.
- Final selection will be made from one of the top three candidates.
THE PTPD OFFERS COMPETITIVE SALARIES AND BENEFITS:
- The 2024 hourly rate for the new hire is $30.26 per hour ($62,940.80).
- Top Patrolman hourly rate for 2024 is $43.23 per hour ($89,922.99).
