The Montgomery Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of a full time Police Officer.  Applicants must possess an Act 120 Certification or must be currently enrolled in a Pennsylvania State approved police academy. Candidates that are certified police officers from a state other than Pennsylvania will be required to pass the Pa Act 120 certification examination prior to their projected employment date.

The Montgomery Township Police Department is seeking highly motivated individuals with an interest in public service and a chance to work in an exciting and rewarding career.  The Montgomery Township Police Department offers advancement opportunities as well as the potential to serve in any of our specialty units.  The Montgomery Township Police Department promotes education and strives to provide our officers with training to assist in career development. 

The Montgomery Township Police Department consists of 39 full-time, sworn officers and 14 civilian staff. The Police Department covers approximately 10.7 square miles and serves a population of around 26,000 residents. The township is home to multiple shopping centers, various business parks, and a large residential community.  The township has multiple state routes that traverse throughout, bringing a large number motorist through the township daily. The Police Department is staffed with a 24-hour Communications Center and is equipped with a Booking Center as well as its own Detention Facility.

 

Minimum Hiring Requirements 

  • All applicants must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • All applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday by their swear in date.
  • All applicants must be able to pass a job-related physical and a psychological examination.
  • All applicants must possess an Act 120 Certification or graduate from a state-certified police academy.
  • Any applicant currently in the police academy must successfully complete the academy and pass the MPOETC ACT 120 certification test prior to the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department.
  • Any applicant who successfully completed the police academy within the previous two years, but failed to obtain a MPOETC ACT 120 certification, shall successfully pass the MPOETC ACT 120 certification test prior to the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department.
  • Applicants who are certified police officers from a state other that Pennsylvania are required to pass the Pa. Act 120 certification exam prior to their projected employment date.
  • Applicants who cannot obtain MPOETC ACT 120 certification by the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department shall be disqualified.
  • All applicants must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or graduate equivalency diploma (GED) at time of application.
  • All applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment.
  • Any misdemeanor or felony conviction is an automatic disqualification. Any criminal activity that would be considered a felony under Pennsylvania law, federal law, or the law of the state in which the activity occurred is a disqualification.
  • All applicants must possess and retain the ability to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

Montgomery Township Police Department Salary and Benefit Information

  • 2025 Act 120 Certified Starting Probationary Officer Salary - $78,187 - with yearly salary increases, up to $146,973 (2027 rate) after your fourth year.
  • Yearly Salary Increases based on current Police Contract
  • Paid time off:
    • Vacation Time -    After 1 year of service - 84 hours
                                             After 5 years of service   - 120 hours
                                             After 10 years of service - 168 hours
                                             After 15 years of service - 204 hours
                                             After 20 years of service - 240 hours
    • Personal Time - During 1st year of service - 12 hours earned for each three months of employment. Beginning with the second calendar year and each year thereafter - 60 hours
  • Holiday pay for 13 holidays per year whether the holiday is worked or not
  • Longevity Pay - 2% of base pay on 5th year, 4% on 10th year, 6% on 15th year and 8% on 20th year of service

  • Life Insurance coverage based on 200% of base and longevity wages, paid for by the Township
  • 12 hour rotating shifts for Patrol Officers
