The mission of the Montgomery Township Police Department is to achieve and maintain a highly professional organization that affirmatively promotes, preserves and delivers a feeling of security, safety and quality services to members of the residential, commercial, and industrial community.

The Montgomery Township Police Department is a full-time, accredited law enforcement agency dedicated to providing progressive and professional police services to our community. The Department currently consists of thirty-six sworn officers and fourteen unsworn personnel assigned to the Patrol and Administrative Divisions, providing quality services to the members of our residential, commercial, and industrial community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Minimum Hiring Requirements

 

  • All applicants must be a citizen of the United States of America.

  • All applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday by their swear in date.

  • All applicants must be able to pass a job-related physical and a psychological examination.

  • Act 120 Certification or graduate from state-certified police academy is preferred but not required.

  • Any applicant currently in the police academy must successfully complete the academy and pass the MPOETC ACT 120 certification test prior to the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department.

  • Any applicant who successfully completed the police academy within the previous two years, but failed to obtain a MPOETC ACT 120 certification, shall successfully pass the MPOETC ACT 120 certification test prior to the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department.

  • Applicants who cannot obtain MPOETC ACT 120 certification by the projected date of appointment with the Montgomery Township Police Department shall be disqualified.

  • All applicants must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or graduate equivalency diploma (GED) prior to appointment.

  • All applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment.

  • Any felony conviction is an automatic disqualification. Any criminal activity that would be considered a felony under Pennsylvania law, federal law, or the law of the state in which the activity occurred is a disqualification.

  • All applicants must possess and retain the ability to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

Montgomery Township Police Department Salary and Benefit Information

 

  • 2025 Act 120 Certified Starting Probationary Officer Salary - $78,187 - with yearly salary increases, up to $146,973 (2027 rate) after your fourth year.

  • Yearly Salary Increases based on current Police Contract

  • Paid time off:

    • Vacation Time - After 1 year of service - 84 hours

    •                                        after 5 years of service   - 120 hours

    •                                        after 10 years of service - 168 hours

    •                                        after 15 years of service - 204 hours

    •                                        after 20 years of service - 240 hours

    • Personal Time - During 1st year of service - 12 hours earned for each three months of employment. Beginning with the second calendar year and each year thereafter - 60 hours

  • Holiday pay for 13 holidays per year, whether the holiday is worked or not

  • Longevity Pay - 2% of base pay on 5th year, 4% on 10th year, 6% on 15th year, and 8% on 20th year of service

  • Medical, Eye Care, and Dental plans

  • Paid Sick Leave

  • Life Insurance coverage based on 200% of base and longevity wages, paid for by the Township

  • 12 hour rotating shifts for Patrol Officers

  • Opportunity for overtime for special duty details

  • Dry Cleaning Service is paid for by the department. No need to pay for cleaning or uniform repairs. Our service picks up your used uniforms, cleans and repairs them and returns them days later.

  • Education Bonus for Associate's (2% of base pay), Bachelor's and Master's Degrees (4% of base pay) for a 15 year period.

  • Tuition reimbursement for up to 100% of tuition costs, up to $6,000 annually.  Some restrictions apply.
