The MPTPD jurisdiction is roughly 2.26 square miles, serving both resident and transient populations that average between 15,000-20,000 per day. The annual call volume averages 65,000 calls for service.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required (post-secondary credits or degree in Law Enforcement or related field is beneficial).
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License and CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • CT POST Certified preferred; ability to obtain CT POST and BIA and SLEC certification within one year of hire.
    Ability to acquire a working knowledge of Tribal, Federal and State laws and Tribal ordinances, motor vehicle laws and traffic control, modern techniques of law enforcement, crime investigations and control and observe situations analytically and objectively and record them clearly and completely. The incumbent will be engaged in police patrol operations such as traffic enforcement, detection and reporting of hazardous conditions, community policing programs, detecting criminal activities and investigating reports of crimes, arresting criminal offenders and processing reports and court documents, receiving and serving court orders, executing search and arrest warrants applied for or ordered by the Tribal Court, and other special details and events as needed. The candidate must possess the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies, execute duties firmly, tactfully, courteously, and impartially. He or she will be required to learn the use and care of firearms, the operation of emergency vehicles, and to use communications and first-responder equipment.
 

Job Description/General Duties:

 
Under the direction and supervision of the Shift Sergeant or, in his or her absence, the senior most officer acting in the capacity of Shift Sergeant, the incumbent performs general police duties. A police officer, through the enforcement of Tribal, Federal and State laws and ordinances, performs related work duty often under emergency situations.

The MPTPD differs from area municipal agencies in that its officers have dual CT POST/BIA certification. Within our jurisdiction is the residential community, government operations (Museum, Child Care Center, Post Office, Pharmacy, Utilities, Public Safety and Public Works), the Foxwoods gaming enterprise and, upon completion, Great Wolf.
