The Town of Ledyard Police Department strives to provide service and protection to its citizens and visitors. This mission is accomplished by maintaining a highly trained force consisting of its Patrol and Detective divisions, along with assistance from its Emergency Telecommunications and Animal Control divisions.
The Patrol Division is responsible for the protection of life and property of residents and visitors to the Town of Ledyard. The Ledyard Police Department Patrol Division is highly proactive in its approach to law enforcement, providing a visible proactive patrol presence at all times. The Division has 6 Sergeants, who serve as shift supervisors, as well as 12 Patrol Officers.
Must possess and maintain valid Connecticut driver’s license. Candidate must attend and successfully complete training at the Police Officer Standards and Training Council academy. The maintain ability to carry and utilize firearms.
Town of Ledyard
The Town of Ledyard is located in southeastern Connecticut along the Thames River. Ledyard is 40 square miles with an estimated population of 15,000. Ledyard is located between the two largest casino’s in the world (Mohegun Sun and Foxwoods Casino) which creates a heavy commuter population traveling through the town. The Naval Submarine Base New London is partially located within the town of Ledyard. There are four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school located in Ledyard.
Ledyard Police Department
The Ledyard Police Department has 21 sworn members. The department has 11 patrol officers in a patrol division that prides itself in proactivity. The patrol officers take pride in their professionalism and have a great working relationship with the residents of Ledyard. The department has 2 detectives within the bureau. The detective bureau consists of a detective and a court/evidence officer.

The first step in the hiring process is the written exam hosted by the Law Enforcement Council. The application for the written exam can be located at lawenforcementcouncil.org. There are several exams held throughout the year. Once the written exam is completed and the applicant must select the Ledyard Police Department to receive the results via www.policeapp.com . After the written exam is completed and a passing score (70+) is achieved by the applicant the following steps remain:
- Physical agility test
- Oral Panel interview
- Chief’s interview
- Personal history questionnaire
- Background investigation
- Psychological evaluation
- Physical Exam and drug testing
