The Guilford Police Department is a CALEA and State of Connecticut certified police agency that is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.
This is a full- time, 40 hour per week position that requires work on weekends, holidays, etc. and the successful applicant must be willing to work any shift.
A competitive wage and benefits package will be offered in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting salary for entry level Police Officer will be $38.23 per hour ($79,518.40 annually). Top step earns $45.92 per hour ($95,513.60 annually). Beginning July 1, 2026, Probationary Officer will earn $40.21 per hour ($83,636.80) and top step salary will be $48.09 per hour ($100,027.20). The Town offers a 401(a) retirement plan with a 3-8% employee contribution and 100% town match (up to 8%) through June 2026. Beginning July 1, 2026, the Town of Guilford will offer a 401(a) retirement plan with an 8% employee contribution with a 13% town match.
All candidates will be required to successfully complete and pass the following:
- CPCA Entry Level Police Exam with a passing score of at least 70%.
- CHIP Test with a passing score of at least 40th percentile.
- Oral Board Interview with the Board of Police Commissioners
- If a conditional offer of employment is made by the Board of Police Commissioners, the candidate must pass the following to be considered for a final offer of employment:
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Medical Examination with Drug Test and Occupational Assessment
- Thorough Background Check
Applicants must complete the on-line registration/application at PoliceApp.com in order to take the CPCA Entry Level Police Officer Exam. The next CPCA Entry Level Police Officer Exams are being held remotely on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and Sunday January 11, 2026. Candidates who have taken the exam within six months of the application due date and achieved a passing score will also be considered. CHIP Testing is available on several dates during the announcement period.
Applicants must complete their application through PoliceApp by 11:59PM, January 14, 2026 to be eligible for the position.
