POLICE OFFICER

The Falmouth Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.
 

Minimum Requirements

  • 21 Years of Age
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts Drivers License
  • Be able to qualify for a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • United States Citizen
  • Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces, if applicable
 

Application Process

Applicants will be screened through a thorough hiring process, including (but not limited to) a background check, medical and psychological exams, and a fitness test. If successful, applicants will be given a conditional offer of employment by the Town Manager.
 

Training

Newly appointed officers will attend Entry-level Police Academy Training sponsored by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council (MPTC). Upon successful completion of the training academy the new officers will receive additional training through the Falmouth Police Department Field Training Program.

  • Retirement (contributory): A pension will be awarded to police officers in good standing at the age of 55 for 32 years of service (80% of salary, excluding paid details and overtime). Any retiree less than age 55 and/or with less than 32 years of service will receive prorated retirement benefits. Contributions to the retirement system are required (11% of weekly paycheck).

The Town of Falmouth is located on Cape Cod and has a population of over 32,000 people, which rises to over 100,000 during the summer months. The police department has 67 full-time sworn police officers. We are currently recruiting to fill thirteen open positions. The Falmouth Police Department responds to an average 30,000 calls for service annually. New officers the opportunity to explore a variety of specialties to include: Detectives Bureau, Drug Enforcement Unit, Motorcycle Unit, ATV Unit, School Resource Officer, Sexual Assault Investigator, FTO Program, Bicycle Patrol, Honor Guard, Court Prosecutor, Crisis Intervention, Special Response Team, Crash Reconstruction Team, and Community Engagement Team. We are a progressive department with a focus on community engagement.

HIRING PROCESS:

  • 1. Submit completed application with waivers
  • 2. Panel Interview
  • 3. Thorough background investigation
  • 4. Physical Fitness Test
  • 5. Medical Exam
  • 6. Psychological Exam
  • 7. Physical Abilities Test
  • 8. Accepted into MPTC approved Academy
  • 9. Successful completion of academy and POSTC Certification
  • 10. Successful completion of internal field training officer program, followed by one year probationary employment

SALARY:

The current salary is $67,509 – $84,493, including an education incentive to qualified applicants along with a competitive benefits package (Health, Dental, and Vision Benefit Programs, Paid Sick Leave, Shift Differential Pay, Wellness program, Uniform Allowance, Paid Holidays, and Paid Vacation)
