Police Officer Recruitment Announcement

East Whiteland Township Police Department (pop. 15,069) located in the middle of the Great Valley in Chester County, is about 25 miles west of central Philadelphia, well known as a vibrant and affluent residential community will be accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer.

Applicants must be able to work some weekends and holidays. Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer. Applicants must be able to complete a competitive process including but not limited to a physical agility test, oral interviews, physical and psychological examination, hearing acuity test, polygraph examination, and comprehensive background investigation. Position Requirements:

  • Applicants for the position of Police Officer must be capable of possessing requisite
    skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Officers, at the time of their appointment, must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Applicants considered for employment must be of good moral character.
  • Applicants must be physically and psychologically able to perform the duties of the position of a Police Officer, as per the job description.
  • Officers, at the time of their appointment, must be a resident of Pennsylvania and possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
  • Applicants must possess visual acuity acceptable for performing all functions and responsibilities of a police officer.
  • Applicants must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or graduate equivalency diploma.
  • Preferred qualification - candidates who are conversational in English/Spanish are preferred.
  • Applicants must have graduated or currently be attending the Pennsylvania basic police academy (Act-120) with a graduation date before the current anticipated hire date. Out of state and Military MP certified individuals must have already taken the MPOETC "Partial Waiver Assessment Test" and received a full waiver for the police academy from MPOETC. https://mpoetc.psp.pa.gov/training/Pages/Transfers-for-Out-of-State-Law-Enforcement-Officers.aspx
  • Must be able to maintain Act 120 Certification throughout your employment with EWPD. Must possess and maintain the ability to testify in a court of law.
  • Applicants must be a United States citizen.
  • Applicants may not have any misdemeanor or felony convictions.

The East Whiteland Township Police Department offers competitive salary and benefits:

  • Competitive starting salary commensurate with experience between $80,000 and $129,916, for the first year, then as provided within the existing CBA that has a top patrol officer base pay after four years of $143,270 for 2026.

HIRING PROCESS

  • All applicants must pass a written exam and a physical agility exam. The physical agility exam standards are listed on the MPOETC website and are based on 30% Cooper Institute Standards.
  • Applicants must take and obtain a passing score of at least 70% on the written exam. The date of the written exam will be August 23, 2025, at 10:00 am, located at the East Whiteland Fire House, 205 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA. 19355. Registration will begin at 9:45 am.  Please bring photo ID. The Physical Agility exam will be administered as needed on dates TBD later.
  • Top ranked applicants will receive the date and time for their oral interview. We will attempt to accommodate applicants’ work schedules. They will also receive a full employment application that must be completed and submitted no less than one week prior to their oral interview.
  • All applicants must pass a background investigation with polygraph.
